BREAKING: San Antonio Police officer dies after injured in shootout

BREAKING NEWS at 11:40am: The San Antonio Police Department has confirmed Officer Miguel Moreno, who was injured in a shootout Thursday, passed away at 11:11 a.m. this morning.

Ofc. Miguel Moreno, 32, was shot in the head and died at 11:11 a.m. on Friday after remaining on life support for almost 24 hours

Ofc. Julio Cavazos was shot in chest. He successfully underwent one surgery but remains in critical condition. He faces several more surgeries, though doctors say he is expected to live.

One suspect was shot in the head and killed and the other suspect, who was later determined to have no role in the shooting and is now being considered a witness, was detained immediately on municipal warrants, according to officials.

“It happened so fast, one was down, one was in custody immediately. There was no further danger,” McManus said.

  • SAN ANTONIO — Two police officers were critically wounded Thursday when a crime prevention patrol near downtown turned into a gunfight that left one suspect dead.

“It’s not a good feeling to know two officers were shot during active patrol,” McManus said.

The suspect has only been described as a man from Louisiana in his late 20s to early 30s.

The chief emphasized this could happen anywhere in our city and the dangers his men and women in uniform for face every day.

“Those officers were out there, and they were working, and they were working hard,” McManus said. “All they were going to do is contact these two individuals, contact them to get their identification in the event that anything did happen there. They had a suspect and things went bad real quick.”
