Nancy Pelosi: Abortion is 'fading' as an issue within the Democratic Party

Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a Tuesday interview that the Democratic Party should not impose its view of abortion on its candidates.

“This is the Democratic Party. This is not a rubber-stamp party,” Pelosi told The Washington Post.

“I grew up Nancy D’Alesandro, in Baltimore Maryland; in Little Italy; in a very devout Catholic family; fiercely patriotic; proud of our town and heritage, and staunchly Democratic,” she continued. “Most of those people — my family, extended family — are not pro-choice. You think I’m kicking them out of the Democratic Party?”

Pelosi argued that abortion is “kind of fading as an issue” within the party and was doubtful that a hard-line antiabortion candidate could win a Democratic presidential primary.

She also suggested that the party’s presumed rigidity on social issues is one reason that Democrats were unable to appeal to segments of the electorate that might otherwise have been in tune with their broader agenda.

“You know what? That’s why Donald Trump is president of the United States — the evangelicals and the Catholics, anti-marriage equality, anti-choice. That’s how he got to be president,” she said. “Everything was trumped, literally and figuratively by that.”

Really Nancy?! The platform for the Democratic party is hardcore pro-choice and those ‘pink pu**y hat’ wearing women and men aren’t going to go for this.

The people who represent the Democratic party have protested and marched just about every day since November 8th, 2016 in ‘resistance’ to the very thing you say is a “fading issue.” Your party is totally lost with absolutely no idea which way to turn, but this isn’t the answer. Simply changing the abortion stance will not work to gain votes or any seats in 2018.
